Introducing Maker Memberships in 2026

La Porte County Public Library’s (LPCPL) makerspace, LPCPL Exchange, has grown into a vibrant, creative space where makers learn new skills, bring ideas to life, and connect with others. To support the long-term sustainability of the LPCPL Exchange, we are introducing an annual membership fee for makers who live outside the LPCPL service district. LPCPL’s service district includes 17 of the 21 La Porte County townships. Cass, Dewey, Michigan, and New Durham townships are not included in LPCPL’s service district as they each have their own library.

Recent changes to property taxes (SEA 1) are projected to significantly reduce library funding over the coming years. These memberships will help us maintain and keep the Exchange a thriving hub for innovation, while remaining free for all residents who live and pay taxes within the LPCPL service district.

Maker Memberships will begin on January 1, 2026.

The fee structure is as follows:

La Porte County residents/property owners (outside the LPCPL service district):

  • Individual: $35.00/year

  • Family: $75.00/year

Indiana residents/property owners (outside La Porte County):

  • Individual: $50.00/year

  • Family: $125.00/year

Nonresidents or property owners (outside of Indiana):

  • Individual: $75.00/year

  • Family: $200.00/year

Family memberships apply to individuals living at the same address.

Please note that project-based material costs (such as 3D printing filament) still apply.

We’re excited about the future of the Exchange and grateful for your support as we continue to grow our Maker community. If you have any questions, please call the LPCPL Exchange at (219) 344-5895 or email exchange@laportelibrary.org.
