Your library card gives you access to thousands of books, DVDs, and materials available to borrow and enjoy. It also allows you to use the Library 24/7 with our digital collections.
La Porte County Public Library does not charge overdue fees when items are returned in good condition. You will only be charged for lost or damaged items.

Getting a Library Card
La Porte County Public Library offers a variety of account types designed to provide the access that’s right for you and your family, or organization. If you own property or reside in La Porte County, you can apply for an account at any location.
To get a library card, you will need:
- A photo ID (the ID does not need to be current)
- Proof of address (like a utility statement or another bill)
- Proof of property ownership (if not a resident)
- Parent or guardian permission is required for customers under the age of 18
Library Account Types
May check out materials cataloged as youth materials. Requires the permission of a parent/guardian if customer is under the age of 18.
May check out materials cataloged as youth and teen materials. Requires the permission of a parent/guardian if customer is under the age of 18.
May check out all circulating materials. Requires the permission of a parent/guardian if customer is under the age of 18.
For La Porte County residents who do not live in LPCPL's service district. May check out all circulating materials. Requires the permission of a parent/guardian if customer is under the age of 18.
For La Porte County residents who do not live in LPCPL's service district. May check out materials cataloged as youth materials. Requires the permission of a parent/guardian if customer is under the age of 18.
A business or non-profit organization owned or operated in La Porte County. Flexible loan periods on requestable physical materials. May check out all circulating collections. Application required.
An individual enrolled in LPCPL Lobby Stop or Doorstep Delivery Service. Application requires.
For Indiana residents whose home library participates in the Indiana State Reciprocal Borrowing Covenant. Borrowing privileges for this account type will honor those agreements. May check out all circulating materials. Requires the permission of a parent/guardian if customer is under the age of 18.

PLAC is the statewide library card, enacted by (Indiana Code 4-23-7.1-5.1). The PLAC program allows an individual to borrow materials directly from any public library in Indiana. Borrower will be able to check out all circulating material types. An individual who holds a valid public library card may obtain a PLAC. The fee for a PLAC is established by the Indiana State Library yearly.
For a person who does not live or own property within La Porte County whose library district does not participate in a reciprocal borrower agreement or lives out of the state and wishes to use the La Porte County Public Library System. Individuals are required to have proof of identity. Borrower will be able to check out all circulating material types. The Library Board of Trustees sets the fee for this card type.
For a Library that participates in the statewide interlibrary loan service.
Student and Educator Account Types
May check out materials cataloged as youth materials.

May check out all circulating materials.
School corporation instructor or media staff. May check out all circulating materials for work-related use. Personal use of materials will need to be on a public card type account.
