We are excited to return to our own, standalone Libby collection! Making this change will improve wait times on popular titles and allow us to curate a digital collection that better reflects the needs of the communities we serve.
What is IDL?
For the past few years, LPCPL has participated in the IDL, allowing our patrons access to a wider range of eResources shared by libraries across the state. While this has expanded the selection of available titles, it has also resulted in longer wait times for our customers on items that LPCPL has purchased, as they are available to a larger pool of users.
Why are we leaving IDL?
LPCPL has decided to leave the Indiana Digital Library (IDL) consortium because we wanted to return our Libby collection to local control in order to prioritize the needs of our customers and best use taxpayer dollars.
When will the changeover happen?
The new LPCPL site will go live on Wednesday, June 25. Access to IDL ends on June 30.
How will I access the new site in Libby?
Beginning June 25, you will need to add La Porte County Public Library as a “new” library on your Libby app. Here are instructions to help you do that: Adding a library
Once you have added LPCPL to “Your Libraries” you can "add card" and sign in with your current account credentials. Adding library cards
You can remove your card from the Indiana Digital Library so that it no longer displays in the app after you’ve confirmed your items have transferred over to the new LPCPL site. Removing a card
Will items checked out or placed on hold in IDL move over to the new site?
Yes! Items you have checked out and downloaded will move over and be available until the loan period ends. Holds on items will also move over if LPCPL owns them. If an item you have on hold disappears from your Libby account, please place a Materials Request so that we can consider purchasing it.
Will my reading history move over?
No, but you can download and save your reading history before the switch. Visit this link to learn about Exporting and sharing your timeline activity. You can also call or email the Library to get help from a staff member: (219) 362-6156 x. 101 or help@laportelibrary.org
Will the new site have the same titles?
LPCPL’s Libby collection will be smaller. If you are looking for a particular title and cannot find it in the collection, please submit a Materials Request. Kanopy and magazines will still be available in Libby.
Can I get a library card at another library so I can still access IDL?
No, La Porte County Public Library’s reciprocal borrowing agreements do not typically include access to another Library’s eResources like IDL. Libraries need to prioritize access to those customers who live and pay taxes in their service districts.
Operational Integrity is one of our strategic goals. Prioritizing library access for customers who live and pay taxes in our service district keeps LPCPL’s services sustainable. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you need any help navigating this change.
