Account Info

Checkouts and Due Dates

  • Borrow books, CDs and DVDs for 3 weeks.
  • Login to your account to see when your items are due back.
  • Want to keep an item longer? It happens automatically! Items checked out from Libraries 360 will automatically renew up to two times unless someone else has placed a hold on the item.

Late or Lost Items

  • La Porte County Public Library does not charge overdue fines for late items. You may be charged for lost or damaged items.
  • Items kept 28 days (about 4 weeks) past the final due date are assumed lost so a replacement fee for the cost of the item(s) is added to the account. You cannot use your account until the items are paid for, returned, or addressed by a librarian.

Student Accounts

All students have an account, unless their parent/legal guardian has opted them out of the program. Students who opt out will still be able to borrow items from their school library. School administrators select the student account type appropriate for each grade level. School staff review items to make sure they are suitable before checking them out or sending them home with students.

  • Elementary Student accounts may borrow items cataloged as youth materials.
  • Middle School Student accounts may borrow items cataloged as youth + teen materials.
  • High School Student accounts may borrow all circulating materials.

Teacher Accounts

All classroom teachers and school library staff at participating schools receive accounts. Teacher accounts may check out all circulating materials for work-related use. Personal use of materials will need to be on a public card type account. School administrators select the school staff who are eligible to receive an account.

  • You will be assigned a library card to access your account. It will stay the same year after year. The default PIN is the last 4 digits of your school’s phone number. If you change schools, your account number will stay the same -- only your PIN will change. If you change school corporations, you will be issued a new account.
  • Libraries 360 delivers almost anything to schools, except R-rated movies.
  • Educators can borrow up to 100 items at a time, most for 6 weeks.

FAQ

Libraries 360 is a resource sharing partnership between La Porte County Public Library and your school.

Most students do not receive a physical library card. To access your library account, follow the instructions at the top of this page. Students who wish to receive a physical library card can request one by emailing libraries360@laportelibrary.org. A library card will be sent to your school or mailed to your home address (during the summer) within two weeks.

You can find your school's phone number here. Your PIN is the last four digits of (219) area code phone number.

Library staff have access to student account information like your library account number and PIN. If your school library staff are unable to assist you, email libraries360@laportelibrary.org or call 219-362-6156 option 2.

  1. Click on your school's catalog link at the top of this page.
  2. Sign into your account using your library card number and PIN. Your PIN is the last four digits of your school's phone number.
  3. Look around for the materials that you want and then click “Place Hold.” Make sure your school is selected for the pick-up location and LPCPL will send the items that you want to your school. You can also select an LPCPL location to pick-up an item when you're not in school.

Pro tip: Pay attention to whether there are holds on the items you are requesting. If there aren’t any holds, we’ll get things to you as fast as we can. If there are holds, though, you’ll have to wait in line for the item and it might take a while. If there are holds on something that you need right away, check your school library’s shelves to see if you can just grab it there.

Almost everything! Students are assigned an account type appropriate to their grade level. School administrators select the Libraries 360 account type students are assigned. If you would like your child to have more access to the Library, you can sign your child up for a Level 3 account at any LPCPL location.

We’re moving materials all the time! Items are typically delivered to schools once a week. It can sometimes take 2-3 weeks to get an item from the public library to your school library for pickup.

You can check your account anytime at laportelibrary.org or by giving us a call at 219-362-6156 option 2. You will see both school and public library materials checked out on the account. Overdue notices will also go out to the schools weekly.

If you would like to recommend items, please email libraries360@laportelibrary.org

Parents/legal guardians can opt their child out of Libraries 360 by completing an opt-out form or notifying their child's school in writing. By opting out, your child will no longer be able to pick-up La Porte County Public Library materials at their school. They will still be able to borrow items from the school library.
