Volunteer Spotlight: Janet Gourley

Janet is a champion of volunteering. She was a Girl Scout leader for over 28 years and held various leadership positions during that time. Currently she is a volunteer with Steady Stitchers, a Home Extension club that donates handmade sewn items to local businesses that reach out to those in need. Their motto is “Helping our community one stitch at a time.”

Janet has been a library volunteer since June 2019. In January and February of last year, she helped teens/tweens learn and practice machine and hand sewing during our Make a Difference events, creating fleece hats for local students and fidget sleeves to share with friends at Golden Living.

Why does Janet volunteer at the library? She chose to volunteer with the library because she enjoys sewing, sharing her knowledge, and working with youth. She stated, “When I learned about this opportunity, I was excited to squeeze it into my schedule.” She says it best: “Every time I volunteer at the library I leave bubbly, exhilarated, and excited. Helping people learn a skill fills me with a wonderful, euphoric feeling. I love to see the look of accomplishment and pride on the students faces. They have been a fantastic group to work with.”
