Still Time to Participate in the Winter Reading Program

The Winter Reading Program is nearly halfway through, and there is still time to sign up! All you have to do is read for 600 minutes by February 29th and track it on BeanStack. Upon completion of the program, you will receive solar eclipse glasses, which can be used to view the solar eclipse on Monday, April 8th.

600 minutes may sound intimidating at first, but carving out a little time each day for reading can help you achieve your goal in no time.

If you don’t know where to start or what to read next, here are a few tips:

  1. Read from your physical TBR (to-be-read) pile at home

Do you have a book (or maybe even a whole stack of books) on your bedside table you have just been waiting to read? Maybe it’s a book you bought years ago and you were waiting for the perfect time? There’s no better time to pick it up than right now!

  2. Explore the digital catalog for the perfect eBook or audiobook

With your LPCPL card, you have access to a world of thousands of eBooks, eMagazines, and audiobooks. Apps/websites like Libby, Flipster, and Hoopla are home to books of all sizes and genres for all ages. Remember, minutes spent listening to an audiobook count toward your reading program goal, too!

  3. Grab a book at your local LPCPL branch

Our shelves are lined with thousands of books, with genres ranging from fiction to nonfiction, thriller, mystery, horror, romance, comics, fantasy, young adult, contemporary, historical fiction, and more! You can search for a specific book by using the catalog on one of our computers, or you can walk the shelves and find a book that piques your interest!

  4. Drawn inspiration from BookTok or Bookstagram

If you’re rekindling your love for reading but don’t feel inspired, draw inspiration from BookTok or Bookstagram, two internet communities where readers talk about the books they’re loving! Some pages feature new releases, while others give extensive reviews and summaries on the books they’ve recently read.

  5. Ask a librarian for a reading recommendation

Our librarians are here to help! If you’re looking for a specific author, title, or need a recommendation based on your interests, ask one of our librarians. Librarians are rich with information and are happy to guide you toward your next read!
