About Donating To The Library

La Porte County Public Library welcomes your financial support. Your donations* benefit your community by promoting early literacy, ensuring access to technology, and helping people develop job skills. Your donations may be tax deductible; please consult your tax professional.

*The Library is not currently able to accept donations of books and materials.

Books and Materials
We accept donations of books, CDs, and DVDs in good condition*. We do not accept magazines, textbooks, encyclopedias, condensed books, VHS tapes, or cassettes. Donations may be added to our collection, sold by the Friends of the Library, or recycled at the discretion of Library staff. Unused donations cannot be returned to the donor. Staff will write receipts, upon request, at the time of the donation for the kind and number of items donated. We cannot assign a monetary value to your donation.
*Due to our upcoming renovations, the Main Library is not currently able to accept donations of books, CDs, and DVDs.
Gifts and Planned Giving
The Library welcomes monetary gifts and donations of stocks or bonds for the purchase of materials or in support of Library classes and events. Planned giving options include charitable gift annuities, life insurance, bequests, or estate plans. We recommend discussing these options with your attorney or financial advisor.
